My name is Bill Rogers. I am the current Sheriff of Columbus County. I grew up in the Evergreen community. I graduated from West Columbus High School in 1990. After graduation, I married my wife, Abby, and we have one son, Dr. Jordan Rogers. My work career began when I was nine years old, working on neighboring farms. When I was 16, I joined the Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department; that’s where my public service began. When I have some extra time, I help my brother on the family farm and spend time with my family, friends, and dogs.
I began my law enforcement career with the NC Dept. of Corrections in 1994 and joined the Columbus County Sheriff’s Dept. as a deputy in 1996. I became a trooper with the NC State Highway Patrol in 2000. On October 1, 2022, I retired from the NC State Highway Patrol after 28 years of serving and protecting others. 5 days later, on October 6, I was temporarily appointed as Sheriff of Columbus County. On January 5, 2023, I was officially sworn in as Sheriff.
Under my administration, I have strengthened partnerships with our neighborhoods, supported my deputies with the training and tools they need, upgraded vehicles, equipment, and communication. I have built lasting
relationships with community leaders and stakeholders. I have made our deputies’ pay competitive, secured grant funding to address needs, and implemented and improved programs to offset additional costs. This county is my home, and I will continue to work hard to unify Columbus County and make it the safest place possible for everyone!
